New Employee Background Checks

Why are background checks required?

South Sanpete School District is charged with the responsibility to protect the health and safety of all students and to protect the property of the Board of Education. To help meet this responsibility, SSSD requires a criminal background check. This background check is incorporated as part of the district hiring process.

Who Needs a Background Check?

All new district employees and certain volunteers are required to complete a background check as a condition of employment or volunteering. Unless a person has completed a background check through the Utah State Office of Education within the past 12 months of the date of hire, he/she must complete a background check through the district.

Background Check Instructions:

New employees, substitutes, and volunteers needing a background check will be fingerprinted at the District Office. Employees should bring a driver’s license or other form of picture ID and their Social Security card with them at the time of fingerprinting. There is a fee charged to cover the cost of the background check.

Please call (435) 835-2261 or schedule here to schedule an appointment for fingerprinting.

USOE Background Check Requirement for Educators:

f you are in the process of applying for a teaching license through the Utah State Office of Education, you may need to have a background check completed by USOE, in which case you would not need to have a background check done through South Sanpete School District. If you think this may apply to you, check with the Human Resources Department.
