EMPLOYEES DRESS AND GROOMING STANDARDS

Board Policy:
It is expected that the school employees of South Sanpete School District will maintain standards of excellence in the areas of dress and grooming. These standards are intended to encourage each employee to dress in a neat, clean, and modest manner, so as to model a positive example for students. The following standards are established as guidelines for all employees.
Guidelines:
- Employees in their grooming and clothing are to be clean, neat, and modest.
- Well-groomed beards and mustaches are allowed.
- The clothing shall be appropriate role-modeling for students.
- The clothing shall promote a working and learning environment that is free from unnecessary disruption.
- The clothing is conducive to high student and staff performance.
- The clothing will invoke a positive impression from the community.
- Casual clothing (T-Shirts/Hoodies) may be worn for special activities or days and spirit weeks.
- Any extremes in dress and grooming are prohibited.
- Grubby (dirty, gungy, unkempt) clothing of any kind is prohibited.
- Shorts and sweats are prohibited except as authorized in guideline #2.
- A level of the dress shall be maintained which is consistent and appropriate with the type of position, job assignment, and activities of said employee. Shorts and Sweats should only be worn in physical education classes and not in the classroom.
Enforcement:
Adherence to these dress and grooming guidelines is the responsibility of each employee. Building administrators have the responsibility to uphold community standards in implementing the District Employee Dress Standards. Building administrators have the responsibility to communicate the standards to employees. The regulation of these standards is the responsibility of the building administrator and then the district administrator. Cross Reference: Policy GBC
