ATTENDANCE FOR REMOTE LEARNING

PURPOSE:
The purpose of this policy is to provide direction to schools and teachers for recording attendance for online learners in the South Sanpete School District SIS system.
PROCEDURES:
- The teacher/designee will monitor student participation in remote learning at least two times each week of scheduled instruction.
- On the last instructional day of the week, the teacher/designee will use the attendance system to report the week’s participation according to the rubric below.
- The teacher/designee will communicate with school guidance counselors regarding assigned courses if applicable.
- The teacher/designee will facilitate the resolution of concerns and questions related to technical needs to the technology departments.
Attendance Code: Student participation level
X The student did not participate in remote learning this week.
L The student had limited participation in remote learning during the week.
Blank The student participated in remote learning during the week.
Additional Guidance:
- Attendance will be recorded once each week, but it represents the whole week of remote learning.
- This is not a report of the quality or quantity of student learning.It is merely a report on whether the student participated in the remote learning experience in some way.
- A variety of indicators can be used to determine if a student participated in remote learning. These may include, but are not limited to:
- Canvas, Google Classroom, Discussion Threads, etc.
- Emails or other electronic messages
- Assignment submissions
- Completion of online modules (Edgenuity, Path Blazer, Odysseyware, Aleks, iXL, etc.)
- Zoom, Phone, WebEx, or other calls.
