MES New 20202

Minutes from Manti Elementary School Community Council Meeting

Held November 8, 2017

Attended by: Karen Soper, Rebecca Dettinger, Angie Gerber, Amber Keisel, Lew Ann Jorgensen, Anna Egg, Rachel Lundberg, Elise Van Orman, and Roy Carlisle

Chasing Dragons Video

It was decided that we would send an email to parents with the link to the “Chasing Dragons” video and leave the decision to show their children up to the parents. We also discussed contacting the middle school and high school about showing it every year to the kids in grades 6-12.

Lunch Wellness Policy

We are working on not rewarding good behavior with treats. We discussed asking teachers to do something active as part of the curriculum and/or add an active piece to students homework.

Trust Lands amendment

The amended plan was presented to the board and we are waiting to see if it is accepted. It is looking good.

Nomination for Distinguished Title I award

Its pretty neat that Manti Elementary was nominated for this award. The winning school will recieve $10,000 and a few teachers will be able to accept in Philadelphia.

Union street sidewalk and crosswalk

We have been having a hard time trying to figure out where to put the crosswalk on the new north side pick up/drop off and are open for ideas.

It won’t be paved til spring and so they are going to spray paint lines so parents know how to pick up their students safely. Once we get the kinks worked out, Mrs. Soper will send out the new map ad directions.

We want to ask the city about adding flashing lights to the new crosswalk sign, as well ask talking safety with the crosswalking guards, especially with winter and icy road coming.

December 4 is the Christmas program fro 6-7 pm.

Para-professionals

Para’s need a meeting to get all on the same page. Karen is writing a book about rules for lunch and recess. We talked about getting a mom volunteer to be the “copy-mom” to make copies for para’s and teachers. Rachel will work on finding a volunteer. Maybe Erica and new PE teacher could do some copying in their free time.

Veteran’s Day assembly is on Friday at 1:45.

Lead-a-thon

A Lead-a-thon is where kids can get sponsors as they earn points for doing different leadership activities. There will be incentives for getting a certain number of points a long the way. We are hoping to raise $100 per family to fund Leader-in-me in the future. Kids will find “sponsor’s” as well as go to local businesses for more money.   Our goal is 8,000 (I believe)

Next meeting is changed to January 17 because of someone coming to help ME get lighthouse status.
