Community Council Minutes

School Safety: Karen gave us a school safety update. Officer Kenny Kirkham visited with faculty on January 6, 2014 and went over lockdown procedures and walkie-talkie issues. He gave suggestions great suggestions on how to improve safety. 2 lockdown drills were scheduled. There will also be a Facebook page titled Manti Elementary Emergency for putting out emergency information to the public. Everyone is encouraged to spread the word and “like” the page.

Crosswalk Update: Karen is still working with city officials. After receiving some feedback from the last City council meeting some are reluctant to place signs up. She will be attending the City Council meeting on the 15th of January and giving evidence of dangerous situations and the importance of this happening.

DWA assessment- This is possibly the last year for the 5th grade students to take this test. Starts Feb. 10th-March 3rd

Dibels_ Starts Friday January 15th – Fluency assessment

SAGE Testing- Karen attended a webinar this past week and talked about how testing will be moving to an adaptive format soon.

Trust lands money- Hired Clare Ann Fowles to work with Special Ed and Kindergarten

PTA-Family week and Story night will be Tuesday January 14th from 6;00-7:00 An author will be here doing the reading and the theme is Take A Magic Carpet Ride. Bring a blanket to sit and listen to some wonderful stories. Reach for the Stars book fair will co inside with this on Tuesday evening and also on Thursday during school hours.

Leader in Me update- Everything is on track to receive funding and teacher/employee training will be May 27, 28, and 29.

PTC will be held Feb 6-7 Thursday will be ? day and NO SCHOOL will be held Friday. There will also be No School on President’s Day.

DPAC classes are filling up quick and added a lot to our schools after school program. There will be a show choir 2 days a week before school at 7:30-8:10 for grades 3-5. Flyer will be sent home with more information.

Beverly Taylor Arts Program is going well and Karen is looking into future possibilities.

March 13th will be our next Community Council and we will be discussing how to spend next year’s money.
