Community Council Minutes
October 6, 2020

In attendance: Kassie Donaldson, Marci Childs, Kyleigh Bown, Kiersten Smith, Arleen Jensen

- Welcome – Arleen welcomed our committee including our new members, Kyleigh Bown and Kassie Donaldson. Members were thanked for their service and dates were set for future meetings.
- Member Responsibilities – Committee members were given notebooks with materials outlining member responsibilities. Committee members were asked to read and review materials with regards to their responsibilities as members of the community council.
- Election of officers – Nominations were open for a committee chair and vice chair. Kiersten Smith nominated Marci Childs as committee chairman. The nomination was seconded by Kyleigh Bown. Marci Childs nominated Scott Jackson as Vice Chair. The nomination was seconded by Kiersten Smith.
- Funding – Funding and budgets were reviewed by the committee. Our current budget will need to be amended to make adjustments related to COVID. Marci Childs made the motion to make the necessary adjustments to the budget. Kiersten Smith seconded the motion.
- Acadience Data – Acadience data (formally Dibels) was reviewed by the committee. Our goal is to have 80% of our students at or above grade level by the end of the year. We have no data from our 2020 year end because of COVID.
- School Plan – Our school plan was reviewed and explained to our new members. Our plan will be the same as our 2019-20 plan. Our goals are to improve in Language arts and math. Our goals are to have 80% of our students to be proficient on EOY Acadience test and 50% of students proficient on math and language arts RISE tests. Our action steps were outlined and budgets reviewed.
- Trustlands Plan – Our Trustlands plan goes along with our school plan. An amendment will need to be made to adjust our funding plan.
- Wellness plan – Committee members were asked to review our wellness plan before our next meeting. This plan has to be reviewed four times a year to be in compliance.
- Safe technology and Digital Citizenship – Committee members were introduced to the school and districts plan for safe technology use and digital citizenship. Responsibilities and procedures were discussed. GVES is dedicated to ensure that our students are taught the best practices for safe internet use.
- Safety principles – Safety principles and practices were reviewed with the committee. New action plans were discussed and explained. The new practices are on file in the office and can be reviewed at any time. Our monthly drills will be modified to comply with COVID restrictions. Standard response protocols and parent reunification plans for emergency preparedness were reviewed with the committee and can be reviewed by parents at any time by coming into the school.
- COVID – COVID practices that GVES and the District implemented were discussed with the committee. Students and staff are following all procedures implemented by the District and health department. Teachers and students have all been trained on procedures. Students and teachers have responded favorably and school has been able to proceed normally.
- Halloween – Students will be allowed to dress up on Friday, October 30. No parade will be held this year.
- Christmas – There will not be a public Christmas program this year. Individual grade levels are thinking of ways to do some sort of virtual performance.
- 5th grade play – The 5th grade is preparing their historical play. Although they will not be able to hold a public performance, they are going to have it recorded to share with parents and family.
- Questions…concerns – No questions or concerns at this time.
