Community Council January 9, 2018 3:00 pm
Members in attendance - Arleen Jensen, Dani Taylor, Karli Barney, Angela Wescott, Nancy Goff. Visiting - Jesse Burrell
1 - What things are going good at GVES -
* Powerhour - Parents like powerhour. They like that it helps kids be successful at their individual levels. It encourages them to work hard to be successful. Parents wish that there was a way for math to be included.
* Running of the Bulldogs - Parents like this! The kids love it and work hard to be eligible to participate.
* AR Point system - Parents are happy with how the AR point system has been revised to meet individual needs.
2 - What things would you like to see different? -
* Automated calls - It was suggested that automated calls for negative lunch balances be shut off during breaks when there is no one in the office to take payments.
* Parent events - It was asked why like muffins with moms/donuts with dads are not held in our school. Other school in the area hold these types of events. Karli Barney accepted the assignment to look into these type of events to see if it is something our school would like to participate in.
* Mandatory recess - There is a concern that teachers are not enforcing recess time. Some parents want their children to have mandatory recess so they get exercise. Mrs. Jensen will address this. It was also noted that we are looking into trying to have some type of structured PE for next year.
3 - Brainstorm for upcoming plan - Mrs. Jensen asked committee members to review this years trust land plan and come back next month with suggestions on what they would like to have in our 2018-19 plan. We should have approximately the same funding.
4 - Questions and concerns -
* Science Fair - Dani Taylor is in charge of the science fair this year. It will be held February 6-9th. There will be a change in how the judging is done this year. She will be responsible for getting awards and judges.
Our next Community Council meeting will be held February 6th at 3 pm.
