ALCOHOL, TOBACCO, AND DRUGS

Possession or use of any illegal drug by students is prohibited on any school property or in any building owned or operated by the South Sanpete School District Board of Education or while representing Gunnison Valley Middle School in an activity, or in any activity while under the supervision of Gunnison Valley Middle School. Regardless of the student's age, it is illegal to use, or to have in possession alcohol, tobacco (including chewing), or illegal drugs. The penalty for possession or use of tobacco is a one day suspension, and a referral to Juvenile Court. Violations of alcohol and/or drugs will be turned over to the local civil authorities. Violators may also be expelled or suspended from school or placed on a Home School program. Non-tobacco snuff is not allowed on school property. It will be dealt with as though it were a tobacco product.

Vaping Policy:

1st Offense:

  • 1-2 days Suspension
  • Referral to Youth Court
  • Loss of End of Quarter Activity
2nd Offense:
  • 3-5 days Suspension
  • Referral to Youth Court
  • Loss of next Dance
  • Loss of End of Quarter Activity
3rd Offense:
  • 5-10 days Suspension
  • Referral to Youth Court 
  • Loss of ALL dances and End of Year Activities
4th Offense:
  • 10+ days Suspension
  • Meeting with School Administration and District Superintendent
