Sharon Mecham:

  • Nate Webb will be here on 3/22/24. His presentation will be on bullying, digital safety, and resiliency. Students are walking to the highschool to watch the presentation during school hours. Parents are encouraged to attend that evening.
  • Counseling Data project - Sharon is still meeting with students that are struggling with attendance. With parents present, she discusses the importance of attendance and helps them set goals for success. At the end of 2QTR we have 5%=13 students missing 20+ days.
  • Mental Health Theme for March - “Self Care”.  We have Bulldog Hour on Tuesdays, where students alternate learning resilience and digital citizenship. Teachers use Rethink Ed to teach and discuss the mental health monthly theme.  Mental health issues are escalating. South Sanpete School District and GVMS is trying to meet that demand. Janika Broomhead, a counselor from the district, is at GVMS every Tuesday to meet with students that are struggling.
  • South Sanpete School District offers resources for parents to help their student. Some of these include:
    • Parent Guidance Wellness Series and/ or Free Coaching for Parents
    • Suicide hotline - English and Spanish speaking available
    • Safe Utah Cards
  • CCR (College Career Readiness) - Sharon has been working on CCR meetings with the 8th grade students and their parents. Sharon said she loves getting the chance to meet with all the parents and each student to discuss their next year’s schedule for 9th grade. The 8th graders did a CTE walkthrough at the high school. They were also able to gain more career awareness by going on a tour at Snow College.

Emily Madsen:
