Secondary Students Guidelines for Truancy  (Sluffing):

1st Offense:      

___1.   Parent/Guardian is notified and a warning is issued.
___2.   If a student participates in high school activities, an agreement will be made between school administration and parents concerning activity participation if truancy continues.  Other Discipline:  School’s Choice
___3.   The student will receive a copy of this form as a notification for future violations

 2nd Offense:           

___1.   Parent/Guardian is notified and meeting is held.
___2.   Discipline:   School’s Choice
___3.   The student is suspended from next (UHSAA) activity and/or the next school activity.
___4.   The student will be given other consequences as warranted.

3rd Offense:           

___1.   Parent/Guardian is notified and a meeting may be held.
___2.   Discipline:     School’s Choice
___3.   Student is suspended from next (UHSAA) activity and/or the next school activity.
___4.   Student is warned that a subsequent truancy may result in a “non-judicial” referral to juvenile court authorities.
___5.   The student will be given other consequences as warranted.

4th Offense:   

___1.   Parent/Guardian is notified and a meeting may be held to discuss an alternative educational placement.
___2.   Discipline:  School’s Choice
___3.   Student is suspended from next (UHSAA) activity and/or the next school activity.
___4.   A referral to “non-judicial” juvenile court authorities will be made.
___5.   The school outlines the consequences for the next truancy.
___6.   The student will be given other consequences as warranted.

5th Offense:           

___1.   Parent/Guardian is notified.
___2.   Parent/Guardian, Student, and School Administration hold a Conference.
___3.   An “official” referral to Juvenile Court/DCFS and/or recommendation for alternative educational placement is made.

Note:   As a reminder, when a student is truant, he/she may not make up the assignments, tests, etc. that were missed during that day or class periods.
