Attendance
Attendance is a top priority at EES and plays a critical role in the overall success of students.  We understand this is an unusual year and we will deal with attendance on case by case basis.  Of course if your student is sick or has any symptoms of COVID, please do NOT send your child to school.  Please understand for safety reasons, we will be sending children home if they present with any signs of illness. We encourage parents to make a strong commitment to supporting their child in regular daily attendance, if at all possible.  If your student is absent from school, please call the main office by 9 a.m. or email: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Checking Students Out of School Early
When coming into the school to check out students, masks must be worn. As a reminder: THE OFFICE WILL NOT CALL STUDENTS OUT OF CLASS EARLY FOR CHECK OUT UNTIL THE PARENT/GUARDIAN IS IN THE OFFICE TO SIGN THEM OUT.  Please do not call the office and ask for your child to be waiting. Parents must make time arrangements accordingly.  This ensures that students remain in class for important instruction time and prevents groups gathering in the office.  Thank you for your cooperation with this.

Immunizations & Health Forms
For enrollment at EES, the office must have the following on file for each student: a current immunization record or exemption certificate and a birth certificate or other document of proof.  Parents may be notified individually if their child’s record is not complete.  Health Forms, which must be updated yearly, are part of the online registration process and inform the school nurse of those who require health plans. Please make sure registration is completed yearly and health forms are up to date and current. The health of our students is of the upmost importance.

For special health concerns, severe allergies, medication issues, etc. we ask that parents contact the school before school begins.  The school nurse will create/update health care plans for students with medical issues. All medication, asthma inhalers, Epi-pens, diabetic supplies, etc. must have the appropriate forms filled out by a physician to be kept at the school. All health files will be kept in the office by the school nurse.

Concussions

The long-term consequences of concussions are a concern for parents and schools. The school board has adopted a policy dealing with concussions. The policy is available at www.ssanpete.org, policy JL.

SAFETY/ Unloading Children
When dropping off or picking up your children at school, please make sure they use the curb or sidewalk to walk directly to the doors of the school or the car without crossing through the parking lot or street.  Please do not park your car in the bus or yellow unloading zone directly in front of the school or the bus zone on the north side of the school.  There are two 15-minute visitor parking stalls in the front of the main parking lot for short visits.  We encourage parents to always drive slowly and with caution near the school.  Our students’ safety is the #1 priority!!

Special Ed/ ELL Services
Information regarding the following programs will available at the school or posted on the district website:

Visitors at School
The number of visitors/volunteers who enter the building will be minimized and may not be allowed into classrooms due to COVID. All visitors coming into the building, including dropping off and/or picking up items in the office, will be required to wear a face-covering. All visitors will also be required to sign in.

Lost & Found
Many items end up in the lost and found throughout the year.  Parents may call and check for your student’s lost items. At the Christmas break and at the end of year, all unclaimed items are donated to charity or disposed of. Small items such as jewelry, glasses, etc. are held in the main office. Coats, jackets, lunchboxes, hats, shoes, etc.  are placed in the hall.  Students should check these places frequently if they have lost an item.

Bucket Fillers
This year we are continuing our outstanding character development program called Bucket Fillers.  Bucket filling is an easy-to-understand concept: Everyone carries an invisible bucket that holds our good thoughts and feelings.

When our buckets are full, we feel happy and when our buckets are empty, we feel sad. Children quickly understand that they can fill buckets when they do and say things that are kind, considerate, caring, and respectful. They also learn that when they behave unkindly, inconsiderate, uncaring, or disrespectful, they dip into buckets and remove those good feelings.

During the school year students are reminded to make an effort to be a bucket filler at home, at school, and everywhere they go.  To encourage this behavior, different students are spotlighted each week on Fridays for being “Bucket Fillers”.  Also, these important life skills are taught in classrooms weekly by the school counselor

Second STEP
This year we are also excited to be continuing our researched based program called Second Step to teach and reinforce positive social, emotional, and bullying prevention skills in grades 1 - 5. Social and emotional skills, like math skills, build on each other. This classroom-based program is designed to teach children how to understand and manage their emotions, control their reactions, be aware of others’ feelings, and have the skills to problem-solve and make responsible decisions. Each grade-level will receive weekly lessons that include engaging songs, games, daily activities, and take-home materials to reinforce learning.

Title 1/Free Reduced Lunch
Title I funds are so crucial to the success of our school, it is very important to our school that you submit an application for free and reduced lunch before October 1st. Please submit an application through your individual Power School account.

We encourage all families to apply if they fall even close to the income guidelines. The income limits are fairly generous for families to qualify. There are copies of income guidelines available in the office. All lunch applications are sent directly to the district office. NO income details or applications are available to EES. If families qualify, they should receive a letter of status directly from the district office. Families must reapply each year for the free or reduced lunch status.  If a new application is not submitted, students lunch status will revert to full pay status after October 1st.
